This was brought to my attention by a friend of mine. Apparently, TGIFridays has recently updated their logo. This image utilizes that new logo on a coaster. But at first glance, it looks as though Fridays has started giving out condoms in their restaurants.
As a graphic designer, I can tell you that you need to get another set of eyes on what you design. Sometimes you get so involved in what you’re doing that you don’t see the obvious. More frightening is that Fridays’ ad agency probably had several sets of eyes on this image and either never made the connection, or did and put it out anyway under the “let’s go viral” rule.
BTW – Going viral with something that looks like a condom wrapper is counterintuitive.
